Medha Khole Medha Khole (born May 12, 1967) is an Indian Meteorologist. She is currently the Deputy Director (Weather Forecasting) of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Pune.〔http://www.imdpune.gov.in〕 Her areas of interest include monsoon variability, climate change and variability, natural hazards, and weather forecasting. ==Education and career== Medha has been the Deputy Director general meteorology (weather forecasting) since December 1, 2011.〔http://indianexpress.com/tag/medha-khole/〕 After studying at Modern High School (girls), she chose the science stream and joined Fergusson College. She then pursued a Master's degree in Physics from the University of Pune. After acquiring a First Class M.Sc. degree in Physics in 1989, she appeared for state and national civil services examinations. Khole was selected as a Group A Gazetted Officer by Union Public Service Commission and India Meteorological Department. Khole to chose a career in Meteorology because she wanted to serve society. According to Khole, weather forecasting has the power to impact the economy and politics making the responsibility manifold. She completed her doctoral thesis based on the variability of Indian monsoons and its linkage with the phenomenon of El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and submitted it to University of Pune, and was awarded the Ph.D. degree by University of Pune in the year 2001. With 21 years of experience in the meteorological field, Khole has worked in the research and development fields and trained the meteorological staff. She has been working to improve short-term weather forecasting for the country. Short-term forecasting, where predictions are done for the next 48 hours, is one of the most important aspects of weather forecasting.
